What's New in Explorer?
Explorer is a dynamic service. We add and remove technologies to reflect the changing importance of technologies and their impact on the research and business environments. We tell our clients about developments we think are commercially significant in our monthly Viewpoints. We update our Technology Maps to reflect change.
- October 2008 Viewpoints are now posted on each technology's Web page.
- Explorer's director, Nick Evans, is pleased to announce the expansion of Explorer's Virtual Environments technology area into Virtual Worlds. Virtual worlds now dominate today's virtual environments and are now predominantly computer-based three-dimensional environments that users "walk through," explore, and interact with through their avatars. However, they still include the now more traditional (virtual-reality) world of projected or fully immersive virtual environments enabled by such devices as eye-enclosing goggles and gloves, and the Technology Map will continue to monitor this aspect of virtual worlds. - Explorer's director, Nick Evans, is pleased to announce that Explorer is adding a new title to its technology list: User Interfaces. The technologies that enable people to have easier and novel access to an increasingly wide variety of home and work equipment and devices open up new opportunities for companies to enhance the functionalities and ease of use of their products and services.
