Welcome to Virtual-Worlds Consortium for Innovation and Learning The SRIC-BI Virtual-Worlds Consortium (VWC) is a global network of thought leaders and early adopters of virtual worlds. VWC helps its members to explore and exploit opportunities along the value chain through workshops, one-to-one discussions, and research publications. Members are vendors, users, and decision makers from large and small companies and government bodies in the United States, Asia, and Europe who seek new insights around emerging opportunities. These opportunities may take the form of new VW platforms or related services, subscription revenues, or the use of VWs to make internal or external business-process improvements. The VWC provides: Meetings to hear expert perspectives and discuss important issues and to network with other VWC members to discuss VW opportunities, trends, and implementation issues. Online and offline presentations and discussions to give consortium members the opportunity to interact with the VW research team—at members' facilities, at SRIC-BI offices, and by phone, e-mail, and virtual-world meetings. Research publications for in-depth and international perspectives on current and future VW issues and their implications. VWC uses a broad definition of virtual worlds that includes well-known virtual worlds such as Second Life, Active Worlds, and There, as well as massively multiplayer online games (MMOGs) such as World of Warcraft and Runescape.
