Strategic Business Insights (SBI), an employee-owned spin-off of SRI International, is a futures-oriented research and consulting company that works with clients to identify and map new opportunities based on emerging technology and market insights. We combine ongoing research with consulting services to create insights that affect customers, business, and technology.

SBI maintains research, client-support, and business-development offices in Croydon, England; Tokyo, Japan; Princeton, New Jersey; and our headquarters in Menlo Park, California. These offices have varying needs for research and sales staff and recruit locally.

Research Associate

The Research Associate working with CFD at Strategic Business Insights will be responsible for managing a broad scope of project-related day-to-day tasks in support of the MacroMonitor (a comprehensive survey of US households' financial attitudes, behaviors, channels, institutions, and product ownership) under guidance of the group's senior team members. This position will be responsible for working closely with internal and external project support teams to deliver excellent research and analysis to meet client needs.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities:

  • Work in conjunction with the project team to develop the survey instrument, including testing the online data collection program and related field materials.
  • Schedule and keep track of project milestones with guidance/input from senior team members.
  • Play a lead role in monitoring project performance in terms of schedule and quality, and communicate progress/study updates to team members regularly.
  • Serve as liaison between internal and external project support staff to ensure successful data collection, data processing, and development of client deliverables.
  • Respond to ad hoc requests for data from clients.
  • Prepare profiles for monthly market-trends newsletters.


  • Bachelors degree or equivalent work experience
  • Proficient with MS Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)
  • Strong interpersonal skills that will prosper in a team-oriented environment
  • Effective and concise written and oral communication skills (a writing sample will be requested)
  • Basic knowledge of quantitative research methodologies including data collection, data processing, analysis, and reporting
  • 2+ years' experience in Marketing or Market Research preferred
  • Familiarity with SPSS/SAS a plus
  • Basic knowledge of advanced analytic methods (e.g., segmentation, conjoint) or qualitative research methods would be a plus

Salary: $38,000–45,000 per annum, depending on experience

Full time (40 hours/week).

Manager, Business Development

SBI is looking for a seasoned, dynamic individual to join the Business Development team and be responsible for generating revenue through effective selling, management, and development of client accounts. The successful candidate will identify new leads, initiate contact, schedule and attend meetings, and present to clients and prospects to evaluate and match their business needs with the company's services to secure long-term business relationships.

The successful candidate will demonstrate the ability to understand the business needs of senior decision makers, and will possess exceptional written, oral, and interpersonal skills. The individual must be able to organize and prioritize own work, develop consultative relationships with senior executives, and be willing to travel one week per month.

This is a salaried position with benefits, located at our offices in Menlo Park, CA.


  • Minimum education: 4-yr college degree; graduate degree a plus.
  • 5-7 years work experience. Experience in consultative sales a must; tech industry sales experience a plus.
  • Effective organization and time-management skills.
  • Team-playing skills.
